Good morning, good afternoon, good evening and perhaps goodnight…no not goodnight come back don’t leave…don’t leeeeaaavee….*clears throat* Yes anyway welcome, this is my blog in which I shall barrage you with opinions on subjects far and wide…(probably not that wide actually) hopefully it shall be fairly factual though I make no such promise

harajuku-takeshita

Harajuku Takeshita exit

So I recently started living in the Harajuku area of Tokyo (no you can’t stay with me….well maybe…..probably not though) for those of you who may have never been here or have only heard of the area because of a Gwen Stefani song “From the hoods of Japan, Harajuku girls”…What hoods are you talking about miss Stefani? Are they invisible hoods that I am incapable of seeing because I don’t have magical Gwen-O-Vision that can only be acquired by running down Takeshita Dori blindfolded randomly grabbing clothes to form into some ultra trend redefining outfit?

You may sense some sarcasm there because things often come across as sarcastic online, however I am deadly serious, if there are hidden hoods around I want to know about it.

Harajuku is full of all sorts of interestingly garbed people, I am not hugely into fashion to be entirely honest, but I must admit as ridiculous as some of the outfits are to me, I’m still impressed by the creativity and the bravery it takes to wear some of that stuff. Before anyone shouts at there screen indignantly “They don’t need to be brave because Japanese people are very tolerant of cosplayers and stuff!” Please allow me to assure you that you are in fact utterly wrong. Standing out in Japanese culture is a risky business and just because (unlike in the west) no one will punch you in the head for dressing in a strange manner, doesn’t mean people don’t think you are a mentalist.

So they are brave in many ways and bravo to them I say.

Now I must be and don my suit and tie and disappear into the sea of workers heading to their office jobs….and maybe just maybe I shall wish I was standing on Jingu Bridge dressed as a Gundam or Godzilla……Yes Godzilla, that would be a fantastic outfit for a spot of afternoon shopping.

Bye for now all
